The Aboriginal Operational and Practice Standards and Indicators (AOPSI) standards were revolutionary for their time. Nationally, other jurisdictions desire to move in this direction. The past review was designed to involve agencies at all levels of delegation and their practitioners in the standard development. This process resulted in a number of novel changes. Here is an opportunity to raise the bar further.

Presently, agencies are practicing in a different environment that appears open to innovative approaches. This environment is being influenced by:
  • The New Relationship, Strong Safe and Supported: Aboriginal Pillar ;
  • The Indigenous Child at the Centre Forums;
  • Jordan's Principle; and
  • The Auditor General of British Columbia: Management of Aboriginal Child Protection Services
– to name a few.
